| This photo was taken from
the school building.
The dirt road was used by SF troops to drive to a small beach where
there was sand used for sand bags. While the Song Re (river) ran just west of the camp's landing strip the beach, north of the camp, was the only place to gather sand. Most of the structures seen in the background are rice hooches. Just to the left of the edge of the picture were small hooches in which the remains of some dead warriors were suspended in hammock like slings. Most of the warriors were buried in coffins made of hollowed out logs |
