1. Upon my departure as the Detachment Commander
of A-103, I find it appropriate and a pleasure for me to express my appreciation for
your co operation and capable performance of duty as my detachment 's Operation
Sergeant. Additionally, I will attempt to review some of your individual
contribution to the overall achievement of the detachment.
2. First the detachment's morale and performance of duty
were greatly
improved at the very outset of your tour of duty and now the detachment
functions as a team and not as twelve individuals. This you were able to
achieve by your skillful organisation, application and sincere devotion
to
duty. Secondly, your assignment in Camp Gia Vuc was a considerable
challenge
that you met and overcame. The circumstance required that you call
on every
skill that you possess as an NCO. The CIDG leader where hostile towards
the
Americans, morale was low, camp reconstruction was badly needed, LLDB
counter-
part relationship were at low levels, but you were instrumental in
improving
the camp to a level that meets the high standards of the Special Forces.
Lastly, your courage and professional prowess were tested under fire
many
time and your actions were above that which was asked. 3. In
addition to the results achieved, you are to be complimented
for your analytical approach to problems, your ability to arrive at practical solutions with a minimum of delay, and your relationship
with the Montagnards. 4. i am confident that you will continue
to achieve commensurate results in future assignments which you will receive throughout your
carrer.
I exend to you my congratulations for a job well-done and wish for
contin-
ued success in all future endeavors. SUBJECT : Letter of
Appreciation, dated 7 March 1967, continued 5. Copes of this correspondence
will be forwarded to your present
Company Commander and to your Military 201 File for inclusion.
